Abstract

This research, entitled "Methodological Divergence Between Early and Later Scholars of Hadith Criticism: A Comparative Analytical Study," aims to elucidate the fundamental differences and potential areas of convergence between two prominent schools of thought in Hadith studies. The research problem lies in the abundance of conflicting judgments between early and later scholars, leading to varying stances on the authenticity and weakness of Hadiths. This, in turn, has had repercussions on jurisprudence and legal reasoning. The research employs an inductive, analytical, and comparative approach, collecting texts from their original sources and then organizing them according to specific topics and objectives, along with a meticulous analysis of the differences and their practical applications.

The research demonstrates that early scholars were distinguished by their comprehensive inductive reasoning and profound understanding of Hadith, while later scholars were characterized by theoretical complexity and reliance on terminological rules. Furthermore, the research reveals that the evaluation of many Hadiths differed due to the nature of the critical methodology employed by each group. Among the most prominent recommendations are the necessity of combining the two methodologies, reviving the science of Hadith defects among contemporary scholars, and reconsidering some of the later scholars' judgments that contradicted the principles of the early critics.
