Praise be to Allah, who revealed the Qur’an in a clear Arabic tongue and granted understanding of it to whom He wills among His servants, making it a clarification for all people. Among the scholars of Libya whom Allah has blessed with understanding His Book and enabled to interpret and elucidate it is the esteemed Sheikh Muhammad Salim Muhammad Al-Shuwayrif (may Allah have mercy on him). This study highlights one of Libya’s prominent scholars in the field of Islamic sciences in general, and Qur’anic exegesis in particular. It examines the Sheikh’s approach to interpretation and the extent of the Qur’an he has interpreted. The research also presents a selected portion of his commentary on Surat Al-Jumu‘ah as a model of his exegetical method. The findings of the study indicate that the Sheikh interpreted most of the Holy Qur’an. He also showed a clear interest in scientific inimitability (i‘jaz ‘ilmi). His methodology is based on interpreting the Qur’an through the Qur’an itself, the Sunnah, and the sayings of the Companions. Additionally, he addresses grammatical aspects, supports his explanations with poetic evidence, and responds to various misconceptions, among other contributions demonstrated in this study.
